A large Pittsburgh foundation, with total assets in excess of $250 M, hoped to attract greater investment in its communities and topics of interest from national foundations. Using a variety of data sources, Mr. Weidemann compiled individual profiles on 20 compatible national foundations, comparing them to his client, and assessing their compatibility and the potential profitability of attracting their investment. To identify good prospects, he also analyzed the target foundations’ social networks, identifying ways that the foundation could tap into those networks in order to connect with potential partners.
